Domain Name - Modifying DNS
In order to transfer an existing domain name to us, InterNIC requires a different process than that of a new domain registration. In order to have your domain name record modified to use our Domain Name Servers and our hosting services in the quickest and easiest way possible, you will need to follow this procedure, as outlined below. When InterNIC receives a registration form for an existing domain name, they must verify with the current owners that they do indeed wish for this modification to take place. To do this, they email both the current Administrative and Technical Contacts, as listed on the current Whois record. Either contact may approve (ACK) or deny (NAK) the modification; InterNIC will follow the direction of the email they receive first, provided it is from one of the current contacts, as listed in the Whois record. There are two things which must be done, in order for the modification to take place:
To find out the current Administrative and Technical Contact information, look up the current listing for your domain name, on this page and then return here. If you do not have access to the emailbox as listed in the Whois record, you will need to follow a different procedure. When InterNIC receives your domain registration template, they will assign a tracking number to your domain modification. You will receive email from them (at the Administrative Contact email address) which will resemble the following: Please
reply to this message to confirm that the following update This is the part you will need to be concerned with: **************
Please see attached detailed instructions ************** When you receive this message from InterNIC, simply use your email program to reply to the message, being sure to quote the entire message. Also make sure the From: line in your reply shows the same email address as is listed in the Whois record. In the reply, enter ACK or A in the line marked 0a, as shown below: 0a. (A)ck (N)ak.....: ACK Send this message on to InterNIC, and this will allow them to modify your domain record to use our Domain Name Servers. You will receive an autoreponse from them, letting you know that your authorization has been received by them. This autoresponse is not a notice that your modification has been approved; it is simply to let you know that your part in this process has been completed. Both you and PCG Hosting will receive another email from InterNIC once they have modified your domain name record. Before it actually points to your hosting space here at PCG Hosting, we must enter it into our Domain Name Service, and it must propagate around to other name servers around the Internet. We will email you when we add your domain to our Domain Name Servers.
